Y4S 2027 applications: choose the programme before polishing the pitch

Youth 4 Sustainability is accepting applications for its 2027 programmes until 30 November 2026, according to the 28 October announcement. Start by choosing the appropriate programme, then read its current requirements on the official Y4S website. A strong application needs more than a broad enthusiasm for saving the planet: it needs a clear reason why this particular programme fits your next year.

Sustainability Ambassadors is for students aged 15–18 attending a UAE-based school who are UAE nationals or residents. Its FAQ also requires excellent spoken English and an interest in sustainability. Future Sustainability Leaders is aimed at university students and young professionals aged 19–35; its FAQ describes degree-level study or qualifications at an accredited institution, across all majors, and excellent spoken English. FSL does not require participants to be based in the UAE. If your age, study status or location creates an edge case, ask Y4S before assuming eligibility.

Both programme pages describe a video and personal statement as part of the application. Before recording anything, open the relevant application from the official website and check the current prompts, length limits, file requirements and requested information. This guide has checked the published programme pages and application links, not a completed form submission. Do not guess a video duration or treat this article as the application form.

Prepare one concrete example of something you have noticed, investigated or helped improve. Write down the problem, your own contribution and what you learned. A school project, a question explored in class or a modest workplace improvement can give you something specific to explain. Distinguish what you did from what your team did, and avoid attaching an impressive impact figure that you cannot support. These are editorial preparation suggestions, not published selection criteria.

Use the personal statement to explain the connection between that example and what you want to learn next. For the video, practise explaining the same motivation aloud in your own words. A clear recording and a specific example are a more useful preparation goal than a dramatic montage. Follow the actual application instructions if they ask for a different structure; the organiser, not this guide, sets the requirements.

Check your calendar before making the commitment. The programmes run for 12 months and begin at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in January. The Ambassadors FAQ requires attendance at in-person and virtual activities through the year, alongside its challenge and representation responsibilities. FSL also describes year-round engagements and participation in Out-of-Labs or Talent Connect. List your likely exam, university or work commitments, then ask about the 2027 timetable and any attendance arrangements you need clarified.

The programme FAQs describe participation as free. That does not establish travel, accommodation or other individual arrangements for your situation: ask directly if those affect your ability to take part. Both pages give January as the selection-notification period. Keep a copy of your submitted answers and any confirmation, and distinguish successful submission from selection.
