ONPASSIVE to Garmin: a new name, not a new Metro station
2 min read

If your directions say ONPASSIVE but another map says Garmin, check the location before assuming you have the wrong stop. On 7 September 2026, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority announced a ten-year naming-rights agreement for the station previously known as ONPASSIVE. Its new name is Garmin Metro Station.
RTA says the update will run from September through the end of November 2026. It covers station signs, digital systems, public-transport apps and onboard announcements. This is a transition across information channels, so the announcement should not be read as confirmation that every sign already carries the new name. RTA directs passengers who need help to its station teams.
For residents arranging a meeting or a home viewing, our practical suggestion is to send a location pin alongside the station name. During the transition, adding 'formerly ONPASSIVE' can help someone match your message to older directions. Agree on the actual meeting point rather than just naming the station.
For anyone comparing homes described as near the Metro, the useful question remains the journey from the building entrance to the station entrance. Check the walking route, crossings and the exit you will use. A station label alone does not tell you whether that particular walk fits your daily routine.
If you maintain property particulars or guest directions, review saved text and maps together. Keep a note of when you checked them and use current RTA information to resolve conflicting names. Avoid changing a location pin solely because its label looks unfamiliar.
The announcement concerns the name of an existing station. It is not an announcement of a new station opening, a shorter walk from a development or an improved train timetable. Those are separate questions worth checking on their own.
