Abu Dhabi’s London visit: turn a business introduction into a useful meeting

Abu Dhabi has announced a business delegation visit to London beginning on 13 October. The Chamber, ADGM and ADIO will lead engagements across sectors including technology, manufacturing, health, mobility and trade. The announcement also places the Chamber’s Global Executive Connect on 14 October. These are opportunities for dialogue; the release does not establish public admission, a registration route or a set of completed deals.

For a company considering a conversation across these markets, the useful preparation is smaller than a pitch deck. Write a one-page brief with three things: what your business does, the specific problem you want to solve, and the kind of organisation that could help. This is SIBRIS’s suggested preparation framework, not an application requirement for the delegation’s events.

Choose one question that a suitable counterpart can actually answer. For example, a manufacturer might want to understand a prospective partner’s technical requirements; a service business might want to find the team responsible for evaluating suppliers. “We would like to explore opportunities” leaves the other person to write the agenda. A concrete question gives them somewhere to start.

Separate evidence from ambition. Describe an existing capability with a short, accurate example, then label a proposed expansion or pilot as a plan. If a figure needs context, include the period and what it measures. Bring only material you are entitled to share. A useful first conversation does not require handing over confidential customer information.

Identify the function you need before chasing a name. A sector specialist, a procurement team and a commercial partner answer different questions. Ask whether the person you meet is the right contact for your next step and, if not, which team handles it. An introduction is most useful when it reaches someone who can act on the question.

Finish with a modest next step, an owner and a date. That could be sending a short technical overview, arranging a more detailed discussion or confirming whether there is a relevant contact. In your follow-up, distinguish what was agreed from what you hope will happen. A polite conversation becomes easier to continue when neither side has to reconstruct it from a business card.

Use the current announcement as context, then check any event access or meeting arrangements directly with the relevant organiser before making travel plans. The release says ADIO will convene the third Abu Dhabi Investment Forum in London, but does not give its precise date. The 14 October date belongs to Global Executive Connect; it should not be silently transferred to another event.
